Buying advice

Post by peteretep »

We will be finishing the level 2 course at the club next week and will probably look into getting some gear soon.
Any advice on what to look out for in first boats?

What night is your course?
Have a word with the guys there and they will give you some info and point you in the right direction
But it also comes down to personal preference so dont rush in and try out as many of the club boats as you can.
Dont be afraid to ask, and also check the web.

People trying to sell you boats!
Best advice is to use the club boats for the next while, get used to paddling the different kind of boats and see what you like.
Come down on Thursdays and give polo a go.
Talk to all the other people in the club. (We've all been where you are)
Once you're sure you're going to stick at it, start looking on the different websites, like Irish Freestyle boats for sale forum, the WWKC for sale forum and the canoes and kayaks for sale facebook page
Also shops like Great Outdoors and I-canoe allow you to take boats away for demo.
First and foremost, talk to us already in the club.
